The report is structured into four sections.
In the first section we review the production of citric acid worldwide and
the extent to which production has expanded since the early 1980s. New companies
who have expressed intentions to enter this area or existing companies planning to
expand capacity are identified. We have listed all producers of citric acid worldwide
including China and E. Europe giving output and capacity.
In Section 2, the applications of citric acid in soft drinks, foods,
pharmaceuticals and various industrial sectors such as detergents are reviewed;
the present markets in each of these sectors is determined and growth prospects are
estimated.
In Section 3 the present price levels of citric acid are given.
Feedstocks used in citric acid production including molasses, sucrose, glucose and
starch are reviewed with emphasis on prices in the U.S. and E.U.
Finally, the production cost of citric acid in a fermentation plant is estimated
