Fermentation, Biotechnology & Healthcare The Fermentation and Biotechnology Industry - Current Capacity and Capacity Requirements by 2015
In this 240-page survey the capacities of fermentation companies involved in:
antibiotics and other healthcare products, enzymes, organic acids, amino acids,
polysaccharides and vitamins is given by company, by product and by country.
This is compared with the capacities of biotechnology companies involved in the
production of proteins [insulin, interferons, EPO, tpa and similar products] by mammalian
and bacterial cell fermentation.
The survey is unique as the only report available from any source listing the
fermentation capacity for every company worldwide, as well as the manufacturing
costs of a range of fermentation and biotechnology products.
Chapter 1 is in the form of an introduction outlining the scope of the survey.
In the first section of Chapter 2 the operational capacities for 7 categories of
established fermentation products are assessed by geographical region.
For each region we have identified producers, product range and capacity.
Fermentation companies together with their products are identified.
In a final section the total worldwide fermentation capacity is summarised. In Chapter 3, we have reviewed the current legislation in EU and U.S.
concerning fermentation recombinant microbial organisms. The plant capacity for
biotechnological products by region [Europe, U.S., Japan and rest of world] is given
and novel biotechnology products that are likely to appear in the near future are reviewed. In Chapter 4, fermentation and biotechnology companies in Europe, U.S., Japan and
Korea are profiled. Each profile encapsulates data relating to the company's involvement
in fermentation with specific reference to: sales, turnover, product range
including traditional fermentation and biotechnological products.
The fermentation plants including location and capacity are reviewed. In Chapter 5, we have estimated the manufacturing cost for 13 fermentation
products,
Including: human insulin, a-interferon, streptokinase, penicillin G, cyclosporin A,
lovastatin, vitamin B2, vitamin B12, lysine, citric acid, alkaline protease, chymosin,
a-amylase Chapter 6 is an Executive Summary highlighting the conclusions.
The worldwide fermentation capacities by region, as well as the proportional capacities
devoted to the different product sectors are presented by charts. Production economics
for various fermentation and biotechnology products are reviewed listing yields,
manufacturing costs and product output values.
