Lysine, Methionine & Threonine- Current Status and Outlook by 2015

Three amino acids, lysine, methionine and threonine have substantial applications as feed additives for pig and poultry feed. These amino acids are considered more effective nutritionally than soyameal, which serves as benchmark protein ingredient in animal feeds.

In this survey these amino acids are reviewed with emphasis on:

  • production processes [lysine and threonine are derived by microbial fermentation whilst methionine is produced by chemical synthesis from acrolein]
  • applications in various categories of feed
  • producers and current output, as well as new producers who have entered this area
  • prices, price fluctuations and market
  • projected market and outlook by 2015
