Sorbitol and other Polyols – Current Status and Outlook by 2020

Sorbitol derived from starch/glucose is the most important polyol with applications in foods, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, as well as feedstock for ascorbic acid.

The output and consumption of sorbitol and applications in various sectors are estimated. Producers and production capacity are listed and recent price trends evaluated. The production and prices of other polyols [e.g. mannitol, malitol, isomalt, lactitol, xylitol, hydrogenated glucose, erythritol] are compared with sorbitol.
